The construction and widening of rural roads under the Chief Minister's Accelerated Programme (CMAP) was in progress and widening and improvement of road from Khaira Distributory to Kahna Kacha railway crossing would be completed by the end of this year with a cost of Rs 89.171 million.
The Provincial Minister for Communication and Works (C&W), Chaudhry Zaheer-ud-Din Khan revealed this while presiding over a departmental meeting, held on Monday to review the progress of work on the said road. Secretary C&W, Ahmad Yar Khan, Additional Secretary Technical, Masood Rasool, Chief Engineer Highway, Muhammad Khalid Khokhar, Deputy Secretary Highway, Younas Aziz and officers of concerned sections also attended the meeting.
Secretary (C&W) briefed the participants of meeting that 7.8-km long road from Khaira Distributory to Kahna Kacha railway crossing would be widened up to 24 feet. He further told that Rs 53.690 million had been spent by June 2006 while Rs 35.481 million had been allocated during the current fiscal year for the completion of said road.
The Minister directed the Secretary C&W to complete this project within the stipulated period. He also directed that a comprehensive programme be chalked out to maintain the road after completion.
