The first meeting of the newly appointed members of the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (Pemra) was held at their headquarters here on Tuesday. The new authority members have recently been appointed for a term of four years.
Pemra members during this meeting took significant decisions pertaining to electronic media regime in Pakistan. Besides other important decisions, in principle the authority had decided to issue the first ever non-commercial FM radio license to Islamabad Traffic Police, which would serve general public in order to aware them regarding traffic rules.
The initiative taken by Pemra would prove a trailblazer to ongoing Police reforms by depicting the positive, constructive and affirmative role of Police to masses in Pakistan. In future such licenses will also be issued for other metropolitan cities on the request of the respective Metropolitan Traffic Police.
The Authority also deliberated upon crucial subjects like introduction of IPTV regime, specialised subject broadcast stations for academic pursuits, temporary up-linking permission to foreign broadcasters on emergent basis and the policies to adhere to program content by the broadcasters.
The Authority decided to devise a "Pemra Welfare and Reward Fund" to compensate its outstanding employees. The allocation of reward shall be made to deserving employees for extraordinary performance in relations to enforcement and intellectual contributions.
