Rawal Town District Assembly on Monday approved Rs 33.966 million annual development programme (ADP) for 2006-07 and Rs 50.179 million Chief Minister Development Package.
Under the ADP, the house approved 84 development projects, including installation of filtration plants, construction and renovation of streets and roads, provision of street lights, construction of boundary walls of graveyards and laying of new water pipelines in different areas of the town.
The house also approved Rs 59.523 million for ongoing projects of 2004-05 and 2005-06, while Rs 10.568 million were also approved to pay for increasing cost of the 47 development projects.
In a resolution, the town assembly held the City District Government (CDG) responsible for destruction and loss of lives due to flood in Nullah Leh during recent monsoon rains. The CDG was responsible for cleaning the Nullah Leh and drainage system in the town, but it failed to do so, the resolution added.
The town assembly demanded compensation for the flood affectees and a high level inquiry into the Nullah Leh widening project, as after spending millions of rupees, Nullah Leh was again flooded.
The town assembly demanded of the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) to ensure listing of all the voters. The assembly was told that in many areas, the CEC officials had not listed the voters. The CEC should take stock of the situation and direct the staff to reach every locality and distribute forms in a proper way, they said.
The house deferred the resolution, demanding auction of debris of the old municipal building at Jinnah Road where Tehsil Municipal Administration (TMA) has planned to construct a parking plaza. The house asked the TMA to get approval for construction of plaza from provincial government.
The house also deferred the resolution, demanding auction of used electric instruments, and asked the TMA to ensure transparent auction and present the documents before the house.
The assembly unanimously passed a resolution, condemning the Israeli aggression on Lebanon and Palestine, and stressed the need for unity of Muslim world to give a befitting reply to Israel.
