Tourists, who get cleared duty-free personal/professional equipment under the new 'baggage rules', can not sell these items locally, and would take such items out of the country with them, or may export these on or before their departure from Pakistan.
Sources said on Wednesday that CBR has updated the baggage rules keeping in view the changes in the Trade Policy. The baggage procedure has clearly specified that customs may allow temporary release of any personal and professional tools, equipment, computers, cameras, video camera fitted with VCR or a video camera and VCR without payment of customs duty by making an endorsement to that effect of serial number, or other identifications on the passport of foreigners or against a bank guarantee for export within 30 days or on return of the tourists, whichever is earlier.
The released items would not be sold in Pakistan, and the tourist shall take back such items out of Pakistan with him, personally or may export the same on or before his departure from Pakistan.
The duty-free allowances for Pakistani nationals availing transfer of residence also include second-hand or used medical equipment, including electro-medical equipment, if in use of a Pakistani national.
However, the facility would be available to registered medical practitioner recognised by Pakistan Medical and Dental Council, the rules added.
