The 14th session of Pakistan-Libya Joint Ministerial Commission's (JMC) meeting would be held by the end of September this year in Islamabad. Ibrahim Mukhtar, Ambassador of Libya, stated this at a meeting with members of the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce & Industries (FPCCI) at the Federation House, here on Friday.
The Pakistan-Libya JMC would discuss ways and means for the implementation of decisions, taken during the visit of Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz to Libya, he said.
The ambassador said that the agreement to open up bank branches in both the countries to facilitate trade, review of civil aviation agreement and issuance of multiple visas to businessmen would be discussed at the JMC meeting.
He invited Pakistani businessmen to benefit from opening up of the Libyan economy after 30 years of government control.
Pakistani businessmen, particularly from cement and steel industry should visit Libya and witness the privatisation process of public sector units.
Chaudhry Muhammad Saeed, President FPCCI, said that the FPCCI would propose to the National Chamber of Commerce and Industry to sign memorandum of understanding (MoU) for the establishment of Pakistan-Libya Joint Business Council.
FPCCI president said that despite vast potential in trade between the two countries Pakistan's exports to Libya amounted only to $3.814 million and imports were stood at $0.958 million. He said that besides textile Pakistan could also export leather, food items, medicines, surgical instruments, soccer balls etc to Libya.
Chaudhry Saeed proposed that on the recommendations by the National Chambers of the two countries multiple visas should be issued to businessmen.
The meeting was also attended by S M Munir, former FPCCI president and Sheikh Shakil Ahmed Dhingra, member, Managing Committee, FPCCI.
