Administrator, DHA, Brigadier Maqsood Hussain inaugurated the Bonsai Exhibition 2006 organised by Pakistan Bonsai Society in collaboration with Defence Housing Authority at Zamzama Park on Friday evening. Consul General of Japan Shoichi Kano was the guest of honour.
Speaking on the occasion Brigadier Maqsood described Bonsai as a fascinating horticultural art of growing tress in a small container to evoke nature and miniature. He said that the Bonsai art was a creative and aesthetically vibrating passion that provided immense delight and recreation to public.
He commended the efforts of Pakistan Bonsai Society for promoting the fantastic Japanese art in Pakistan. He said that Bonsai center established in the society at DHA Zamzama Park over the years has emerged as nucleus for disseminating the knowledge and information on the intricate art and science of Bonsai in the country.
The administrator reiterated that DHA would go all out to support and patronise any initiative aimed at promotion of any intellectually creative pursuance in the society. He added that DHA attached great importance to development of parks, roadside plantation and playgrounds for providing recreational and relaxation facilities to its residents.
Earlier the President Pakistan Bonsai Society Commander Khalid Sohail in his welcome address outlined the objectives of his society. He termed Bonsai as an engrossing hobby with dedicated followers all over the world.
He also thanked DHA for providing a beautiful place in Zamzama Park for organising its activities.
Muhammad Ovais, Honorary Secretary PBS said that the mechanics of the intricate art of nurturing Bonsai plants revolved around selecting appropriate plants, containers, pruning, trimming and feeding of miniature tress. He said that success of growing Bonsai trees depended on maintaining harmony and balance in their growth and on their appropriate exposure to sunlight.
He said that the aesthetic delight and pleasure derived out of Bonsai art had a soothing and positive effect on human senses and helped in developing a harmonious and enlightened society.
