High Commissioner of Federal Republic of Nigeria to Pakistan, Umar-El-Gash Maina has said that all means and modes were being mobilised for increasing bilateral trade volume with Pakistan.
Addressing the members of Sialkot Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) here on Thursday, he added that there was a wide scope of expanding trade activities with Pakistan, and Nigerian government had adopted a strategy for obtaining fruitful results.
The Nigerian Federal Commerce Minister would soon visit to Sialkot for ascertaining the possibilities of increasing the volume of bilateral trade and to assess the chances of joint ventures between the two friendly countries, he revealed.
The Nigerian High Commissioner was confident that the visit of Federal Commerce minister would surely help in expanding bilateral trade as well as ensure bringing the businessmen of Nigerian and Pakistan closer.
On this occasion, he told the house that reputation and genuineness of Nigerian firms should verified before starting business deals. The Nigerian High Commission to Pakistan would extend all possible support and co-operation for providing necessary information about the firms, he added.
In his address of welcome, SCCI Executive Committee's Member Dr Khurram Anwar Khawaja said the Nigerian firms could establish joint ventures and business collaboration with Sialkot-based companies in the field of sports goods, surgical instruments, leather goods and information technology.
Bilateral trade between the two countries was nominal, which was contrary to the trade potential and trade balance in favour of Pakistan, Dr Khurram Khawaja said. He said there was a keen interest on both sides to develop and expand trade and economic co-operation and more interaction between business communities of the two brotherly countries was crucial.
The exchange of trade delegation, increase participation in trade fairs and exhibition in both countries including single country exhibition and regular exchange of information on foreign trade regime and other publications through the respective trade office and other relevant organisations would help promote and enhance the trading opportunities between the two countries, he said.
