The National Assembly will resume sitting here on Monday in the Parliament House building, Islamabad after a two-day break. The government is likely to introduce bill regarding women protection 2006 in the house when it meets as was hinted by the Minister for Parliamentary Affairs, Dr Sher Afghan Khan Niazi on Friday.
He had said that the government would introduce bill regarding protection of women 2006 in the National Assembly on Monday although it could not do so due to lack of quorum on Friday.
It may be mentioned that the said bill was on the agenda on Friday but government could not table it due to lack of quorum.
Meanwhile, PML ruling sources informed PPI here on Sunday that treasury members have been asked to remain in the house on Monday to avoid quorum issue.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz has said that the Women Protection Bill will be in accordance with the injunctions of the Quran and Sunnah for the protection of women and will be a symbol of women empowerment in the country.
The Prime Minister said that this bill is part of a process under which the present government has taken many other initiatives for providing protection to the women.
He said that women have a very important role in our society and Islam gives respect and dignity to women. In the light of our traditions and faith the government would take all steps to give women their due place in society, he said.
The Prime Minister said that Pakistan is proud of having the highest number of women parliamentarians in the world.
He said that because of the steps taken by the government under the leadership of President General Parvez Musharraf women are occupying several important positions in the government today.
He said the Opposition should not use the proposed legislation to gain political mileage. He said this is a national responsibility on our shoulders and we all should play our role in empowering women and giving them the status they deserve according to Islam.
