Garret Anderson homered and drove in four runs as the Los Angeles Angels pounded the New York Yankees 12-7 in American League play Saturday.
Rookie Howie Kendrick had four hits and also homered for the Angels, who handed the Yankees their third straight loss and fourth in five games since they swept the Boston Red Sox in a five-game series last week.
Tempers nearly flared in the middle innings of the second game of the three-game series after several brushback pitches and hit batters. Home plate umpire Tim McClelland warned both benches however and there were no further incidents in the late innings.
The teams conclude the series Sunday afternoon.
Los Angeles pounded out 16 hits off five New York pitchers, with Vladimir Guerrero adding three hits along with three runs scored and two RBI to the Angels attack.
Mike Napoli had two hits and drove in a run for the Angels and Orlando Cabrera scored three times, had two hits and drove in a run.
Ervin Santana (13-6) allowed five runs - four earned - on seven hits with five strikeouts and three walks over 6-1/3 innings to get the win for the Angels, who are trying to stay alive in both the AL West and the AL wild card race.
Three relievers finished up, including Francisco Rodriguez, who got the last four outs and picked up his 36th save, allowing two hits and striking out two and walking one.
