It is a matter of pleasure that a special supplement is being published to mark the momentous occasion of supply of Sui gas to Muree. The first and foremost priority of any democratic government is to ensure that all its policies are directed towards achievement of the objective of substantially enhancing the quality of life of the masses.
With this noble but challenging mission in mind, the present government has diverted the flow of public funds towards uplift of lesser-developed and far-flung areas of the province.
The hospitable people of Murree, though gifted with qualities of head and heart, have been facing a tough life through centuries due to severe climatic conditions especially in winter. In spite of attracting tourists from all over the country and even abroad, this scenic land has remained under developed due to lack of infrastructure. Non-existent alternate fuel resources and ever growing tourist industry had placed a strain on the natural forests which were being cut at an alarming pace to meet the demand of energy.
The present government has taken solid measures to develop the picturesque Murree and its surrounding areas and provision of natural gas is yet another gigantic step forward in this direction. Contribution of 50% of funds to this landmark project by the Punjab government is a reflection of its earnest desire to bring this area at par with the developed areas of the province. The sustained supply of natural gas is bound to preserve the forests, natural life, eco-system and the precious environment of these areas and will also result in tremendous socio-economic growth and a positive change in the living standard of the people of the area in near future.
I congratulate SNGPL, its management and dedicated staff on the completion of this project of far-reaching consequences and wish them success in all future projects of national significance.
