The Central Board of Revenue (CBR) has appointed 'customs' in each collectorate for speedy processing of cases through Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) mechanism.
Sources told Business Recorder on Monday that the Board has issued instructions to all collectorates for appointing a 'coordination officer', not below the rank of Deputy Collector, for expeditious disposal of cases under ADR.
The collectors should submit report on pendency of ADR cases to the Board by September 30, 2006.
Sources said that the Board has taken necessary steps in the budget to improve the working of ADR under section 195C of Customs Act, 1969. The experience of last two years has called for further improvements in the system. Therefore, 45 days time limit for timely finalisation of the cases has been extended by another 45 days.
Moreover, a retired judge would be included in the panel of the Alternative Dispute Resolution committees to strengthen them, sources added.
