Fire broke out on the 8th floor of a newly completed commercial plaza, with smoke billowing from the windows for nearly three hours before fire-fighters and rescue teams extinguished the blaze in Gulberg area here on Tuesday.
No casualties were reported. The fire broke out at around 8.30 am in the 'A Tower' of the 9-floored City Towers building on Main Boulevard, Gulberg, which comprises four blocks.
Rescue 1122 and Civil Defence squads as well as police teams, fire brigades and Edhi ambulances rushed to the spot after being informed. SHO Ghalib Market, Khalid Saeed disclosed that the fire was caused by a short circuit in the office of Ahsan Cotton Products, at a time when the shops and offices had not yet opened for business. The extent of the damage could not yet be determined.
Civil Engineer, Abdullah Yusuf of the building management told newsmen that two or three offices of the floor were destroyed. He said gas and power supplies in the building were cut off immediately to prevent further damage.
