In the first ten days of Ramazan around 100 profiteers were sent behind bars in Lahore, chairman price control and supply monitoring Punjab Khawaja Tahir Zia said.
Talking to PTV he said that a total of Rs 4 million fine was received from the unscrupulous elements during the first ten days of the holy month. In future the unscrupulous elements would be sent straight to jail for six months as they did not mind paying fine, he said.
Price hike was being combated through establishing Sasta Ramazan weekly bazaars and Utility stores across Punjab. Punjab government was offering subsidy worth Rs 2.5 billion on Sasta ration scheme, he said.
Magistracy system has already been revived from July 19 in Punjab to further tighten the noose around those who indulge in plundering and looting people.
Aiming to provide items of daily use on reduced rates as many as 126 fair price shops have been established in Lahore to benefit poor segment of society.
Speaking on the occasion administrator market committee Lahore Mian Asad Munir said task force has been constituted to ensure implementation of rates fixed by market committee.
