Work on the Rs two billion Judicial Complex to be built on Mutti Tul road would start after Eid-ul-Fitr, District Bar Association (DBA) President Syed Athar Bukhari said on Monday. Talking to newsmen, he said the complex project to be spread on over a 947 kanal (118.5 acres) area, will be funded by the Asian Development Bank.
Work is scheduled to be completed within four and a half years time, under a co-ordination committee whose members include district and sessions judge Saifur Rahman Baloch and himself. He said land payment amounting to Rs 80 million had reportedly been made. At his recent visit here, Chief Minister Pervaiz Elahi directed DCO Iftikhar Babar to remove any hurdles and start work on the project at the earliest.
The Bar chief said he had proposed to earmark 62-kanal land on the complex for the Multan High Court Bench so that all court facilities were made available at the same site. Funds worth Rs 20 million had already been released to start the foundation work of the project, he observed.
"The complex will have 3,000 chambers for lawyers, while at the moment the Multan district bar strength is 3,250 including 225 female members. Female lawyers will have separate facilities and chambers in the judicial complex, while there will be three bar rooms, one for female members, and a grand library," he explained. The complex will also have a residential block for judges to enable them perform their duties without any difficulty. "There are also plans to remodel the existing courts (Kutchery), for which land is being got vacated from encroachers to make room for more chambers for lawyers, and a new 'Bakhshi Khana," (room where under-trial prisoners wait for appearance in different courts). With the remodelling of the Kutchery, more space will be made available for car parking, a minaret symbolising justice will be built in front of the district Nazim offices, and main gates will be readjusted for better traffic flow.
