About one million families in the Punjab province have so far been benefited from the 'Sasta Ration' Scheme of the government, which will continue the year round. Under the scheme, one each packet, comprising basic food items like flour, sugar, pulses etc, is being given to registered deserving people.
The government is extending a subsidy of Rs 170 per packet under the scheme, official sources said here on Monday. Moreover, sources said the government had taken stringent measures to check the price hike. The profiteers are being fined and punished and the fine money has been increased from Rs 100 to Rs 5000.
