The Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) University has put endanger the future of hundreds of earthquake affected students by refusing to announce their graduation results due to the non-payment of fee.
Following the catastrophic earthquake last year that completely turned the AJK educational institutions into rubble, the government had declared emergency and promised to waive off examination fee in calamity-hit areas.
However, according to scores of affected students, the authorities have backtracked from their commitment and a sudden refusal of not to declare their graduation results prior to clearance of all dues have put the educational career of students at stake.
Talking to Business Recorder, a number of students complained that they appeared in graduation examinations some three months back amid lots of problems and controversy. At that time, it was informed that the AJK university administration had asked affected students not to deposit examination fee and they would be allowed to sit in the examinations.
However, they were stunned when the authorities categorically refused to issue roll number slips just one day before the start of exams without clearing their dues.
It was more ironic to learn that the students were even asked to submit double fee as they were already getting late, which irked hundreds of students who protested against the decision.
Their protest forced the authorities to at least allow the students to appear in the examination without issuing their roll number slips. But the situation has been worsening when the AJK University has announced this week results of BA and BSc students except those who had not deposited their fee.
The victims of this act told this correspondent that the authorities were pressing them to deposit their examination fee if they need their result cards, which they blamed was a sheer breach of their commitment. One thing is quite sure that the controversy would certainly affect the large number of students who may not continue their education after the refusal and rigid stance of the AJK government.
