North Atlantic Treaty Organisation (Nato) has now assumed a new role of being viceroy in Afghanistan and not fot its peace keeping and supervisory role.
The outburst of General David Richard against Pakistan, published in The Sunday Times, just before his arrival in Pakistan alleging that Pakistan is unable to contain and control the Taliban and Mullah Omar, who is reported in his statement as living openly in Quetta as per Nato's intelligence sniff's is deplorable.
General David Richards's announcement that he will try to persuade President Musharraf to reign in his military intelligence service is a transgression of authority and good taste from a visiting guest.
What has General Richard and Nato troops done so far to stop the sudden rise of Taliban power in Southern Afghanistan, instead of blaming Pakistan, and by doing this, they are harming relations between the two countries. He is missing the target of his presence in Afghanistan.
He should be bold enough to acknowledge that the Taliban problem is not a problem that can be easily blamed on this and that person, or this or that organisation, and or this or that country.
Threats and pressures on Pakistan government will not achieve the desired results. The government and people of Pakistan should reject this self-assumed viceregal role of Nato's interference in Pakistan-Afghanistan relations.
