In order to enhance export of fruits and vegetables, Pakistan Horticulture Development and Export Board (PHDEB) has chalked out a four-year "Vision 2011" plan. Chairman Pakistan Horticulture and Export Board, Saadat Ejaz Qureshi, told Business Recorder that during the next five years.
The Board would focus on increasing export of three fruits ie kinnow, apples, mango and one vegetable potato. Saadat maintained that under the Vision 2011, maximum efforts would be made for increasing production of kinnow, apples, mango and potato. Efforts are being made to make export process less cumbersome apart from searching new markets, he said.
He hoped that country would be able to achieve kinnow export target of 250,000 tons in the forthcoming season. About the export of mango, he said that the target of 80,000 tons export of mango had been achieved quite easily. The mango export target for next year has been fixed as 100,000 tons. The Board, he said, was endeavouring to earn precious foreign exchange for the country by enhancing horticulture exports.
