The NWFP government has directed its law enforcing agencies to evolve an effective mechanism to improve the law & order and traffic system in the provincial metropolis and surrounding areas as per expectations of the masses.
This was decided in a meeting held under the chairmanship of the Minister for Religious Affairs, Amanullah Haqqani, on Saturday. The meeting was attended by provincial ministers Asif Iqbal Daudzai and Kashif Azam Chishti, MPAs Dr Zakir Shah and Javed Mohmand, and DCO Peshawar and police officials.
The meeting thoroughly reviewed the law and order situation in Peshawar district and adjacent areas and emphasised the need for close co-ordination among the police and all other concerned to control crimes and remove public complaints.
The meeting called for increasing police patrolling and strict vigilance on movement of suspicious vehicles plying in local bazaars and highways to check subversive activities.
It decided to launch a vigorous campaign for bringing the criminals under law to purge the society of crimes. The meeting expressed satisfaction over the performance of the police department. However, it directed for improving it further.
The police were directed to devise an effective strategy for tackling the incidents of bomb blasts, and to immediately start installing closed circuit cameras at all thickly populated public places in Peshawar City.
The meeting decided that no vehicle other than yellow cabs would be allowed in the taxi stands. The cars used as taxis should display the board inscribed with 'Rent a car' and all such vehicles be registered properly.
To resolve the traffic jam problems in the city, it was decided that all illegal bus stands would be eliminated and no truck or other heavy vehicles should be allowed to enter the city between 6:00 am and 6:00 pm. The meeting constituted a committee under SP Traffic to stop use of VCRs in buses.
