Sindh Chief Minister Dr Arbab Ghulam Rahim said on Thursday that honest police officers would be posted in the province to bring about improvement in the society, as the police could play a very important role in this respect.
Addressing the police officers of 33-CTP group at the chief minister's house in Karachi, Arbab Rahim said that emphasis was being given to the character of police officers in their selection and posting to get the required results.
He said that government has earmarked a huge amount of Rs 18 billion in current fiscal year for maintaining law and order while the salaries of the police force have also been raised.
"I am not despair over police performance in Sindh, as there still exist good and honest police officers," he said noting that martyrdom of 44 police officials in last ten months testifies that police force was active in combating the crime.
"The law and order situation could not be described as ideal one, however every possible steps are being taken to control it," he added. Arbab Rahim viewed that the crime rate has shot up with development of society and cited example of cell phone used by the criminals to commit the crime. He also referred to occurrence of street crimes in cities.
He vowed to equip the police force with modern weaponry and added that steps are being taken in this regard, as the criminals also possess sophisticated arms. Arbab Rahim said the government has resolved to bring an end to 'recommendation culture' in the police force and urged the police officers to perform duty with utmost responsibility and honestly to maintain writ of law and respect for their uniform.
He said a police officer having good character would leave positive effects over the society and a responsible and honest SHO could control the crime in his area.
