The NWFP legislature on Thursday through adopting a unanimous resolution demanded of the federal government to immediately reopen three closed airports of D.I. Khan, Bannu and Swat of the province for the convenience of the general public.
The provincial assembly resumed proceedings with speaker Bakht Jehan Khan in the chair, passed a number of resolutions about different kind of problems faced by the people of the province. Majority of the resolution were passed unanimously while others with majority votes.
Israrullah Gandapore, PPP-Sherpao MPA from D.I. Khan, presented a resolution, demanding reopening of the D.I. Khan airport. However, some members proposed amendments in the resolution for inclusion of Swat and Bannu airports.
The mover agreed with the amendments and later the provincial assembly unanimously passed the amended resolution, asking the federal government to reopen the D.I. Khan, Bannu and Swat airports immediately.
The assembly also passed the resolution of Attiq-ur-Rehman demanding of the federal government to compensate for the human and property damages of about Rs 1.5 billion of incurred in wake of sectarian clash in Hangu. The house unanimously approved the resolution.
Khalid Waqar Chamkani of Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal (MMA) presented a resolution in the house about education institution in the residential areas and demanded of the provincial government not to dislodge for the education institution in Hayatabad unless they were provided alternate plots. Abdul Akbar Khan supported the resolution, however, the provincial minister Sardar Idrees informed the house that the matter was prejudice as a case was pending in the court in this regard.
He told the house that the government had constituted a committee and rules in this regard. He said that the education institutions would be allotted plots through holding draws among the genuine and deserving schools.
Javed Mohmand of MMA demanded action against education institutions established in residential areas and said that the owners had set up these school illegally. When the speaker sought the opinion of the house, the resolution was passed with majority vote.
Through a resolution Mukhtiar Ali Khan demanded of the federal government to pay compensation to all victims of the Iraq and Kuwait wars without discrimination. Seemi Mehmood Jan of Pakistan Muslim League-Q was asked to bring her resolution about residential colony for assembly workers at Hayatabad through an adjournment motion. On the completion of the day long agenda the chair adjourned the proceedings till Friday morning.
