Ukraine's President Victor Yushchenko met with visiting Pakistan Senior Federal Defence Minister Rao Sikandar Iqbal, and discussed how to develop co-operation between the two countries.
President praised friendly relations between two countries. "We should build closer economic ties." He invited his Pakistani counterpart, General Pervez Musharraf, to Ukraine, President's press office said on Saturday. Defence Minister Anatoly Hrytsenko and Deputy Secretariat Chief of Staff Oleksandr Chalyy attended meeting.
Meanwhile, Ukraine Defence Minister Hrytsenko and Sikandar Iqbal inked a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between Cabinet of Ukraine and Pakistan Government on Co-operation within Military and Defence Industry. They also signed under a Co-operation Plan-2007.
Hrytsenko said Pakistan is interested in co-operation with Transport ministry in aviation, space, machinery and military-technical sectors. Pakistan considers possibility to get Ukrainian enterprises in developing Pakistan railways and showed readiness to allot $500 million to implement this project. Hrytsenko outlined Pakistani interest in missiles, ammunition and radars.
Ukraine Premier Viktor Yanukovych in talks with Rao Sikandar said his country is interested in deepening co-operation with Pakistan. They discussed prospects of co-operation in trade, economic, military technical spheres.
Rao Sikandar thanked Ukrainian emergency service workers for helping his country deal with aftermath of October 2005 earthquake. Ukraine sent a mobile hospital and medical workers to assist Pakistan.
He said Pakistan learnt much from Ukrainians and is working on creating its own mobile hospital unit based on Ukrainian model so that it can also help other states when disasters strike.
