Islamabad Model Traffic Police on Saturday organised one-day training programme for officers to communicate friendly with the public while performing their duty. The training was conducted by two UK-based Pakistani professional trainers Umair Akhter and Sumair Abbas.
The focus of the training was positive attitude, courtesy, communication skills, style of communication, etiquette's, voice control, body language, how to deal with angry and abusive customers, taking control of situation.
Umair Akhter, one of the trainers, said that the training programme would help the ITC police officials to perform their duty in more professional and technical manner, which would help change the impression of public about police.
On one hand, such training programme would help to educate the traffic officers and on the other, it would also change the mindset of customers (public) because of their friendly attitude, he added.
Umair emphasised the need of customer awareness campaign through various programmes like seminars, banners, pamphlets, signboards and media campaign, which would prove to be productive to the traffic police. He was of the view that easy traffic system and better infrastructure were also key to reduce the traffic problems and address the concerns of masses.
Talking to Business Recorder, ITP Assistant Superintendent of Police Aftab Khan said that almost 30 constables and officers participated the first phase of the training and the remaining would be trained in the series of such awareness programmes.
He was of the view that due to successful implementation of the Model Traffic Police system in the federal capital, it is being considered to apply in other big cities of the Punjab including Lahore, Rawalpindi, Multan, Gujranwala and Faisalabad.
He said that there is no VIP culture in the system and is being equally applicable across the board. There is no chance of indulging in corruption by the ITC officials due to separation of two agencies (challaning and collection agencies).
