In the last five years, the cement industry of Pakistan went into massive expansion to meet the growing demand of both Pakistan and Afghanistan on account of growth in industrial, commercial, housing and infrastructure projects, said a press release issued by the ABB (Pvt) Ltd here.
The ABB contributed to the expansion phase of the cement industry by engineering and providing state-of-the-art equipment for the new plants and enhanced the capability of the existing cement plants. Prominent among them are Askari Cement, Essa Cement, Pioneer Cement, etc.
The Askari Cement was inaugurated on November 4, 2006. In Askari's plant, the ABB contributed to enhancing the capacity and quality of the existing plant, its engineering was done by the engineers of the ABB Pakistan in collaboration with colleagues from the ABB Switzerland under the management of Muhammad Tahir and Hans Ruedi. Both have played a significant role in supporting the growth of the cement industry in Pakistan.
ABB (Pak) President and CEO Farhat Ali, in his comments, said: "The successful completion of the Askari Cement through local engineering and resources is a major mile-stone and achievement of Pakistan engineering capability in the field of the cement industry, especially in the engineering and execution of the state-of-the-art automation system."
The inauguration ceremony of the Askari Cement was witnessed among others by the officials of Swiss embassy, managers from ABB Switzerland and Pakistan as well as cement industry, and government officials.
