The government announced on Tuesday construction of three much-needed bridges one over Indus River to connect Larkana and Khairpur at a cost of Rs 183.8 million. The announcement came after the executive board meeting of National Highway Authority (NHA) held here with Major General Farrukh Javed in the chair.
It is believed that the bridge connecting Larkana and Khairpur will reduce the distance between the two districts by over 60 kilometres. While presiding over the meeting, NHA chairman Farrukh Javed said the people of the area were facing great difficulties and the vehicular traffic from Khairpur on National Highway (N-5) had to traverse through Sukkur Bypass to reach Larkana.
With the construction of the bridges, he hoped, such problems would be fixed besides a considerable reduction in the overall distance. The meeting was informed that the project would be completed in three years period at a cost of Rs 4.8 million.
The executive board also gave approval for construction of two bridges on Sibi-Dhaddar Section of N-65 that would cost around Rs 179 million. Apprising the meeting of Naran-Jalkhan road, Farrukh said the construction work would be completed in next few days, adding the road would be opened for traffic this month. He said that the NHA was trying to improve connectivity by providing people with a network of highways and motorways all across the country.
Those who attended the meeting include joint secretary communications ministry Firdaus Alam, inspector general motorway police Ahmed Nasim, NHA member finance Malik Muhammad Afzal and other senior officials.
