The tripartite commission comprising senior military representatives from Afghanistan, Pakistan and Nato's International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) in Afghanistan held its 19th plenary session here, on Saturday.
Senior delegates were Lieutenant-General Sher Muhammad Karimik, Chief of Operations of the Afghan National Army; Major-General Ahmed Shuja Pasha, Director-General of Military Operations of the Pakistan army; and General David Richards, Commander, ISAF.
The agenda for this 19th meeting included reports from the Border Security Sub Committee, the Military Intelligence Sharing Working Group and the Counter-Improvised Explosive Device (C-IED) Working Group.
In a significant development from previous meetings, there was also a series of workshops in which officers from all three delegations discussed information operations, co-operation to enhance the Afghan National Army's ongoing 'Operation OQAB', and ways in which the security forces of Afghanistan, Pakistan, ISAF and the coalition could improve their long-term planning and co-operation.
Lieutenant-General Karimi gave a presentation on Operation OQAB, the first ever Afghan-wide joint security operation involving all branches of the Afghan National Army and police with ISAF in support.
