Filing of sales tax declaration is likely to go on web from next month, sources told Business Recorder on Thursday. Sources said that the Central Board or Revenue (CBR) is all-set to launch its new web based electronic filing of sales tax declaration from December, this year.
The electronic filing of sales tax declaration is on the test run and almost completed its initial formalities to provide taxpayers a user-friendly solution for filing their declarations.
The CBR has asked the Large Taxpayers Unit (LTU) and Sales Tax House, Karachi to collect response from the corporate taxpayers and send report to the board before launch of the new system. Sources said the CBR asked the corporate sector clients registered with the jurisdiction of the LTU and Sales Tax House, Karachi to pursue for parallel filing of the declaration electronically through the web portal.
The CBR also asked the filers that they might continue to file their returns electronically under the previous system ie e-mail attachment.
The CBR directed the LTU and Sales Tax House, Karachi to nominate an official, who would pursue all corporate sector taxpayers within the respected jurisdiction to file their sales tax declaration electronically through web portal and send a report to the CBR for the successful launch of the system.
Sources said that the CBR aimed to automate the entire system to minimise contacts between taxpayers and tax officials. The taxpayers are currently sending their declaration electronically via e-mail. The system detects complications for the both sides ie return filers or CBR's IT department.
Several complaints were lodged with the tax department that their electronically filed returns via email were lost and they were asked to file again. While, the officials in the CBR said that the taxpayers were not following as per instructions so their returns could not receive by the board.
Sources said that the new system would provide hassle free procedure and taxpayers would get an e-certificate from the CBR after sending the returns directly to the main CBR data server.
