Sindh Chief Minister's Advisor on Culture Omer Sharif said on Thursday that the government was keen to revive film industry in Karachi and for this purpose, it would resolve all the issues related to the industry on priority basis.
Talking to the film producers, cinema owners and the studio owners in a meeting here, he assured the representatives of film industry of all out co-operation, and expressed the hope that film activities would soon restart in Karachi. The Advisor appealed to the investors of Karachi to put their capital in film making for revival of film industry in the city.
The meeting decided to constitute a committee for evolving a system to work in a transparent way. Omer Sharif said that he would soon make his own film that would be released within six months.
The cinema owners referred to the exorbitant power bills being charged at industrial rates, and suggested that they should charged commercial rates. Omer Sharif assured them that he would talk to the Chief Minister on this issue.
Senior actor Syed Kamal said that once eight to 10 Urdu, Punjabi and Pushto films used to be released on Eid every year, but now the number of such films had declined to two or three.
Film producer Sangeeta offered to produce first film in Karachi. The cinema owners also expressed concern over demolition of cinema houses for building shopping plaza and flats in Karachi.
