The government is taking necessary steps for the education of special people as they are important segment of society and their active participation is necessary for the country's development.
Managing Director Fatima Memorial Hospital, Dr Tariq Zafar while addressing the annual day function of COMPASS (centre of mentally and physically affected special children) here.
Dr Tariq Zafar said various steps taken by the government for the uplift of special people show that the government is keen for their welfare and rehabilitation so as to bring social revolution in the country. He said Ministry of Social Welfare and Special Education has set up a network of Special Education Centres in the country to impart special and skill oriented education so that they (disabled) may not depend upon others and run their self dependent life. The Punjab government has also taken various initiatives for the education and well being of special people, he added.
Speaking on the occasion, Shermeen Alam, Director COMPASS said that Ministry of Social Welfare has launched specific programme for training and education of disabled persons. She said that two-percent employment quota has been reserved for the disabled persons so that they may play role of an important citizen of the country.
"The special persons possess God gifted potentialities but there is a need to enhance their knowledge and abilities by imparting the skilful training to make them self sufficient", she added.
She said her organisation is playing an important role for the rehabilitation of challenged persons as it is a long time process which needs the attention of all concerned. Moreover, the International Day of Disabled will be observed across the world on December 3.
