The US intelligence agency Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) will assist the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) in further strengthening its capacity in countering cyber crimes and terrorism, FIA Director General, Tariq Pervez told APP here on Wednesday.
He said that FBI chief Robert Mueller had held meeting with him last month. "FBI will impart training to our officials already working in the field," he said, adding "100 more will be recruited in Special Investigation Group (SIG) of the agency for improving its capacity and more effectively countering the menace of terrorism."
To a question regarding countering human trafficking and deportation of Pakistanis from European and Arab countries, the DG said the current year saw a significant decrease in deportation of Pakistanis from the European countries. He said increased measures at all international airports and border check posts had greatly contributed to curb the menace.
"We have upgraded Personal Identification Secure Comparison and Evaluation System (PISCES) at international airports, which would be inaugurated by Interior Minister shortly."
The introduction of the system will help the agency to verify the travel documents of Pakistani travellers at a single computerised counter, which will save the time of travellers and FIA officials. "We have been dealing the Pakistani passengers on fourteen different counters at the airports in the past," he added.
"Initially the system is installed at Islamabad, Lahore and Karachi airports, later it would be expanded at all the international airports across the country," he further added.
Tariq said due to strict checking of the travel documents there have been 67 percent reductions in deportation of Pakistan from the western countries this year as compared to corresponding period of the last year. He said: "We are working to control human smuggling from Pakistan-Iran border, which will definitely affect the figures of the deportees from Arab countries." In this regard the agency is in touch with Iranian counterparts and to formulate a policy to tackle the problem, he said.
