Sindh University Vice-Chancellor Mazharul Haq Siddiqui has said there is no substitute of diligence and hard working, adding that without commitment, the target of education development will not be achieved.
He was speaking at the concluding session and certificate distribution ceremony of the month-long faculty development training for university teachers, organised by Human Resource Development Centre (HRDC), SU, in collaboration with the National Academy of Higher Education (NAHE) of Higher Education Commission (HEC), Islamabad, here on Thursday.
Noted scholar and eminent educationist Professor Dr N.A Baloch was the chief guest and NAHE-HEC Project Director Dr Javed Iqbal was the guest of honour. Dr Siddiqui said the quality of education would be beneficial for the society and it depended on the quality of qualified teachers, adding the SU had always been emphasising on quality of education and efforts were being made to improve the quality of education to youth for their better future.
He said the university had introduced a sustainable transparent system for selection of teachers through selection board and enrolment of students through entry test.
Expressing views about grading of universities, the Vice Chancellor said that keeping in view of imaginative criticism come through newspapers and some correspondence by vice chancellors, the HEC had pointed out that for the grading of the universities, parameters were fixed for assessing on quantitative aspect.
He pointed out that in a meeting of vice chancellors a few days back, the matter was again brought-out by HEC administration that qualitative aspect was the parameter of assessment, adding that HEC had assured the meeting that in future quality would be paramount parameter of assessment of higher education and also grading on quality aspect. Dr N. A. Baloch, speaking next, underlined the importance of teachers training, and said that teachers training all over the world was essential requirement in teaching profession.
He said the purpose of the teachers' training was aimed at development of skills, abilities and knowledge of subject, and urged the government to introduce subject of study at higher secondary level for improvement of teachers' ability.
Dr Baloch, appreciating the efforts of HEC, said the HEC had been doing a lot for the improvement of higher education in the country. NAHE-HEC Project Director Dr Javed Iqbal, while expressing his views highlighted efforts taken by HEC Islamabad for training of teachers, and said that for training of teachers, the HEC had established 38 HRDC all over the country. He pointed out that by June 2007, training would be provided to more than 2,800 teachers of the country.
