London white sugar finished higher on Friday, boosted by trade buying and the weakness of the dollar, dealers said. March settled up $4.60 at the day's high of $374.00 a tonne. Total volume was a modest 3,880 lots.
"There was some trade buying...We have seen very light volumes and some light spread activity," one trader said.
Traders also noted origin, trade and producer selling.
Kenya said on Friday it will allow only 200,000 tonnes of both raw and white sugar to be imported duty free in 2007 from partners of the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA) free trade area.
COFFEE MOSTLY DOWN:
London robusta coffee futures closed slightly lower on Friday, with losses trimmed in late trading after a run-up in New York, dealers said.
Benchmark January finished down $2 at $1,435 a tonne, near the top of the day's range of $1,438 to $1,416. Total volume was 8,282 lots.
COCOA EASIER:
London cocoa futures closed weaker on Friday, weighed by light producer selling and the weak dollar, traders said.
March finished down six pounds at 843 pounds a tonne, near the bottom of the day's range of 852 to 839.
Total volume was 12,009 lots.
