Telekom Malaysia's (TM) Pakistani subsidiary, Multinet Pakistan, has sealed a 20-year capacity contract and a service contract with Telenor Pakistan. In total, the deal is estimated to be worth $40 million.
The capacity contract will allow Telenor to use fibre-optic cable pairs and associated co-location facilities along Multinet Pakistan's national long haul transmission network, known locally as 'Project Ittehad'. The service contract entails maintenance and associated services from Multinet for the duration of 20 years.
The aggregate amount of both the capacity contract and the service contract is estimated at $40 million. TM has a 78 percent stake in Multinet through its investment holding subsidiary, TM International Sdn Bhd (TM International).
Multinet is a broadband company, which is a significant corporate Internet Service Provider (ISP) in the country. Multinet is also licensed to provide Long Distance/International (LDI) services. 'Project Ittehad' is a 4,100 km fibre-optic backbone connecting 107 cities across Pakistan, the first backbone project to be launched after the state-owned carrier Pakistan Telecommunication Co Ltd's long haul network was completed in 1996.
The Telenor group is an international provider of high quality telecommunications, data and media communication services. Telenor ranks as one of the biggest GSM service providers in the world with over 105 million subscribers. Telenor Pakistan is 100 percent owned by Telenor ASA.
