Tanvir Ahmad Sheikh, President, FPCCI said to meet the challenges of globalisation we need to change our mental attitude and give first priority to adopt new technologies. He was addressing the participants of National Defence Course 2006-07 who visited FPCCI Head Office as part of their study tour.
The team led by Air Vice Marshal Faaiz Amir, Chief Instructor included 74 participation, out of whom 22 were from foreign countries, 33 from armed services and the rest from the civil service of Pakistan.
The FPCCI President said the new emerging realities under WTO have placed developing countries in a difficult situation. The reduction in the cost of production through employment of latest technologies and up-gradation of skills of the employees for better productivity and efficiency are the basic requirements to meet the challenges of international competition, he added.
He said as one of the founder members of WTO and signatory to more than 90 percent agreements Pakistan is obliged to comply with the standards required by WTO regulations. The WTO agreements have shifted the responsibility of compliance from Government to the private sector of the country, he said.
Tanvir Ahmad Sheikh said the private sector was making serious efforts to adopt these measures in the larger interest of the country. He welcomed the idea of establishment of Free Trade Areas in Pakistan and China for investment by the entrepreneurs of the two countries.-PR
