Sindh Chief Minister Dr Arbab Ghulam Rahim has thanked Altaf Hussain for taking stance on the issue of the twin islands` ownership, declaring them as property of Sindh. However, he asked him to direct the MQM minister, who had signed the MoU, to withdraw from it.
According to an official handout from Chief Minister House on Saturday morning, Rahim said this in a 'press conference' here. The Chief Minister said that the twin islands have not been handed over to Dubai administration. However, these islands must be developed.
"Those opposing development of the islands should go and hold protest at the grave of Zulfiqar Bhutto who had given these islands to the federal government," he said, according to the handout. "PPP has also stopped issuing statements on the islands issue after Benazir Bhutto called them from Dubai, directing them to halt statements, as she lives in Dubai," he contended.
The Chief Minister said that meetings between Sindh government, Prime Minister and Attorney-General have been held with regard to the ownership of the islands, "and we want to resolve this issue involving Abdul Qadir Halepoto and Abdul Hafeez Pirzada as 'Ameen', the Trustees".
Arbab Rahim said that PML-Q and its allies have unanimously nominated Mujeeb-ur-Rehman Jeelani to contest by-election in PS-71 constituency. "The polls would be held transparently, and I myself would go to the people, as we have served the people and taken stand over important issues of Sindh," he said.
