DIG Operations Faisalabad, Muhammad Aslam Tareen assured exporters and businessmen to provide security to their lives and property and curbing crime in the city. Aslam Tareen was addressing members of Pakistan Textile Exporters Association (PTEA) here on Saturday. The meeting was held to chalk out an effective programme to control these incidents.
Mian Zahid Aslam, Chairman, Pakistan Textile Exporters Association (PTEA) apprised the DIG that the Association members were in a state of panic, fear and harassment due to organised dacoity incidents at their residences.
He said they earn three billion dollars foreign exchange for the country and substantially contribute towards uplift of the City, provide infrastructure facilities and implementing beautification schemes for roads and roundabouts but they were not safe.
Quoting the latest incident occurred with a senior PTEA member and leading exporter Imran Attaullah, he said the incident had sent a wave of terror and panic among the exporters and they were feeling insecure about their life and property.
If such circumstances persisted the exporters would be unable to continue their production and export their goods.
Giving details of dacoity incident Imran Attaullah said that he was preparing to fly out on January 9, 2007 for participation in Heimtextil Fair being held in Frankfurt, Germany. Some persons armed with weapons entered his home, overpowered security guards, locked all family members into a room and looted belongings and valuables from the house and fled.
The police and 'Rescue 15' were informed immediately who arrived on the spot but since then no solid progress had been made in the investigation. He said the exporters were highly under strain due to tough competition from India, Bangladesh, China, and if they lost the peace at their houses they would be unable to run their textile mills and would ultimately close down their units and hand over the keys to the government.
The DIG responded that as soon as he came to know the certain incident he had issued special instructions to police officials to resolve the matter on top priority basis.
He admitted that the present government had provided maximum facilities and equipment to the police and it was their responsibility to provide security to business community as well as the common men. He said that if he could not succeed in curbing crimes in the City he would go back.
