Karachi Shipyard is receiving construction projects of three Submarines and other marine projects due to positive improvements setting in the Organisation.
Karachi Shipyard Managing Director, Iftikhar Rao said this in a briefing to the National Assembly Committee on Defence Production, while visiting the Karachi Shipyard and Naval Dockyard here on Monday.
The standing committee under the chairmanship of Fiza Junejo during their visit to the Karachi Shipyard and Engineering Works decided to form a sub-committee to take up the issues of the organisation and proposed various recommendations and proposals to improve the efficiency of this viable sector of Pakistan economy.
The committee observed that being a vital organisation for growing economy, maritime sector and national security, the Shipyard deserves valid subsidies, cash concessions, funding and support to make them competitive in domestic and international markets further.
The standing committee recommended that shipyard should produce larger scale to revitalise its markets. Karachi Shipyard's utility in construction of submarines, ships, ship sections, ferry boats, pilot boats and other machinery, keep a promising career as a vibrant sector for industrial growth.
The standing committee also appreciated the organisation for the contract F22P signed with China having project value of $35.120 million. Earlier, the standing committee visited Pakistan Naval dockyard where Managing Director Saleem Akhtar gave a detailed briefing on the working of the organisation.
The committee appreciated building, repair capacity of the organisation. The construction of Submarine Hamza under transfer of technology developed with Mesma ie, Agosta 9B, which can stay under water for longer time period was highly appreciated.
