Following its restructuring, the revenue generation of Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) will increase from Rs 5 billion, registered during last year, to Rs 7 billion by the end of fiscal year in June.
Director General CAA Farooq Rehmatullah stated this while addressing a press conference at CAA Club here on Tuesday. The CAA chief explained in detail the objectives of restructuring of the Authority and said the plan has been carried out to focus on core activities, which have been strengthened and made manageable.
He elaborated in detail the CAA's ongoing and future development plans. He informed that ground-breaking of Rs 30 billion new Islamabad airport will be held on February 1, this year.
He said the project would be financed by Civil Aviation Authority and to be completed in three-and-a-half years. He said that consultant for the master plan has been appointed while appointment of designer consultant is being finalised whereafter tenders will be floated for construction.
This process will take about 8 months. Farooq Rehmatullah said that CAA is working on two mega plans of constructing Airport Cities on 1,000 acres at Karachi airport and on 350 acres at Lahore airport.
He said that master plans for the two mega projects will be developed incorporating provisions for hotels, hospitals, auditoriums, conference halls, shopping malls, apartment accommodation and other world class facilities.
He said Karachi Airport City would be constructed at a cost of 3.5 billion dollars and to be completed in 7-8 years with third party investment.
Director General Civil Aviation Authority told journalists that work on Gwadar airport will start in May this year and to be completed by April 2006, at a cost of Rs 2.6 billion.
