The two-day Third World Islamic Economic Forum (WIEF) will be held on May 28, 2007 in Kuala Lumpur. Abdullah Ahmed Bidawi, Prime Minister of Malaysia will be the chief guest while various heads of states from Islamic countries are expected to participate in the event.
Tariq Sayeed, former president, Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) and member, International Advisory Panel (IAP) of WIEF, who is in Malaysia these days to attend the IAP, informed this to the chambers federation on Tuesday.
The IAP meeting has approved the organisation of World Islamic Women Business Forum on May 27, 2007, followed by a three-day women entrepreneur's exhibition of Muslim businesswomen. The advisory panel also approved the organisation of Regional World Islamic Economic Forum on theme "Towards a SEACO FTA in the Bay of Bangal", which would be held in Dhaka this November, he informed.
Traiq Sayeed in the meeting suggested to the WIFE, led by Tan Sri Musa Hitham, former Deputy Prime Minister of Malaysia to ensure the participation of renowned Muslim leaders like King Abdullah Bin Abdul Aziz of Saudi Arabia, President Pervez Musharraf and such other personalities to create more interest in the mega event of the Islamic World.
In addition to review the follow-up of the 2nd WIEF and future programmes regarding third WIEF, the panel also decided to open Corporate Membership against the fee of $10,000. Other categories of sponsorship, including strategic partners, platinum, gold and silver were also announced. The participants also discussed the Marketing aspects of 3rd WIEF so that this mega function could be successful to the desired level.
Traiq Sayeed is the only Pakistani who has been conferred the membership of Asian Strategy Leadership Institute, Malaysia and the World Islamic Economic Foundation in recognition of his services for the promotion of commercial activities in the Islamic world in general and Pakistan's business relations with various Islamic countries in particular.
Overall this is the fifth mega event under the auspices of OIC, the first of which was organised as OIC Business Forum in 2002. After the successful conclusion of the 2nd OIC Economic forum held in 2003 in Malaysia in which eight heads of Islamic States including General Pervez Musharraf, President of Pakistan attended was elongated to World Islamic Economic Forum.
The first of which was held in 2005 in Malaysia. The second World Islamic Forum was hosted by Pakistan in October 2006, organised by Ministry of Economic Affairs and World Islamic Economic Foundation.
