Speaker, National Assembly, Chaudhry Amir Hussain said that resolution of Kashmir problem according to UN resolution was necessary for lasting peace in the region.
He expressed these views while talking to a three-member delegation of All Parties Hurriyat Conference, headed by Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, Chairman (APHC) that called on him in the Parliament House here on Tuesday. Chaudhry Amir Hussain said that peaceful resolution of Kashmir problem was in the interest of India, Pakistan, Kashmiris and the World Community.
He said that the existence of this dispute had diverted the bulk of resources of both India and Pakistan for defence purposes, which otherwise could have been used for socio-economic progress of the people of both the countries. He said that the resolution of Kashmir dispute would bring peace and prosperity in the entire region.
The speaker apprised the delegation that Kashmir dispute was the core issue between India and Pakistan that must be resolved according to the wishes of the people of Kashmir. He said Kashmir was not a territorial problem but the problem of human rights for the people of Kashmir.
He said that the presence of huge Indian armed forces personnel in Kashmir was the evidence of repression and oppression by India in Kashmir. He said that Pakistan had shown tremendous flexibility and has suggested various options for resolution of the problem.
He underlined the inclusion of Kashmiri leadership in the dialogue process between India and Pakistan. The speaker assured the delegation that Pakistan would continue moral, political and diplomatic support of the people of Kashmir. Leader of the delegation appreciated the efforts of the government of Pakistan for resolution of Kashmir dispute.
He also appreciated the efforts of Special Committee of the Parliament on Kashmir for highlighting the Kashmir issue at global forums. Mirwaiz expressed his optimism about the success of the dialogue process between India and Pakistan.
He said the leadership of Kashmir supports the proposals floated by the President of Pakistan for resolution of the Kashmir dispute and urged the India government to consider those proposals. Members of the delegation include Professor Abdul Ghani Butt and Bilal Ghani.
