Chancellor and Governor Punjab Lieutenant General Khalid Maqbool (Retd) has said that country's economy is strengthened than the past and it is now the responsibility of the educational institutions to produce innovative experts to further strengthen the economy.
He was addressing the conference on "WTO, Trade and Human Development" organised by Punjab University's Department of Economics in collaboration with Ministry of Commerce and United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) at Institute of Biochemistry and Biotechnology on Wednesday. The governor said that our country has great potential in all fields of economy and there is a need to utilise it through adoption of modern technology.
He said that we could stand in the line of developed countries by promoting free and open trade. He added that the objective of WTO is to promote free trade and it is necessary for our country to collaborate with WTO and adopt its policies. He said that foreign exchange could be raised only through better planning and open trade.
He said that another vital sector of our country is the textile sector. By implementing the modern technology in textile sector we could get access for international market and through our quality product we could also get higher prices. He said that due to wrong policies of the previous government our economy was almost collapsed and we were at the stage of bankruptcy but because of the present government innovative policies, today, our economy is strengthened and its fruits are spreading among the common man.
Speaking on the occasion vice-chancellor Punjab University Arshad Mahmood said that education and modern technology got great importance in the developed world and Punjab University is fulfilling all the requirements in this regard. Due to policies of the government the country's growth rate is increasing tremendously and human resource also developed a lot. Two sessions were organised on the first day of three-day conference/workshop organised by PU's department of Economics.
