Punjab Chief Minister Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi has urged the people to re-elect General Pervez Musharraf as president in uniform as he has strengthened the country in every sector and improved its image in the world. He said that President Pervez Musharraf had always taken measures for the solidarity, welfare, development and prosperity of the country.
Addressing a big public meeting at Sabzazar here on Sunday, the chief minister said: "Now it is our obligation to elect him as president in uniform." "We are ready to elect General Pervez Musharraf as president again and again in uniform," he added.
Criticising former prime minister and chief of Pakistan Muslim League (N) Mian Nawaz Sharif, Elahi blamed that Nawaz Sharif move to Jeddah leaving the country on the verge of bankruptcy. The chief minister further said that Nawaz Sharif was no more Muslim leaguer as he had joined the PPP.
Elahi stressed that Muslim leaguers who were still with Nawaz Sharif should return to the real Pakistan Muslim League and play their role for national development.
He said that Muslim League is a name of an ideology and no real Muslim leaguer can even think to sit with Peoples Party.
He said that ideology of Pakistan Muslim League is based on solidarity, welfare and progress of the country while Peoples Party's motto is disintegration and plundering the country. The PPP did nothing in its both tenures, except exploitation and plundering the country, he alleged. He said that the credit went to President General Pervez Musharraf for raising the image of Pakistan at global level.
He maintained that the President had emerged as a leader of the whole Muslim Ummah. He said that Pakistan Muslim League and founder of Pakistan Quaid-i-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah selected Lahore to present Pakistan Resolution. Lahore would always remain with PML, he asserted.
Many chief ministers and prime ministers were elected from this city in the past and they did nothing except getting votes, he lamented.
The chief minister said that Punjab government was implementing mega projects for the construction and development of Lahore and a network of roads was being spread in the metropolis.
He said that construction of Ring Road and other roads would result in solving traffic problems as well as provision of job opportunities to the people.
He said the projects of sewerage, potable water and waste management would result in cleanliness of the city.
He announced shifting of Cattle Market from Sabzazar and directed administration to shift Bakkar Mandi at Shahpur Kangran within a month.
The chief minister also announced approval of Main Boulevard of Sabzazar from Multan Road to Liaquat Chowk and said that it should be linked to Motorway Bypass.
He also announced construction of a boys college at Sabzazar and a girls school at UC-84 and directed LDA for immediately provision of land.
Besides, he announced setting up of a Girls High School at D-Block Sabzazar and upgradation of Govt. Girls Primary School Dholanwal to Middle School level. On the occasion, he also announced awarding of proprietary rights to Katchi Abadis, including Mohajrabad, Sikandariya Colony, Qaziabadi and Gulshan Ravi.
Earlier, he distributed documents of proprietary rights among the dwellers of Katchi Abadi, Qaziabadi.
Elahi said that sewerage has already been constructed in the area across the Bund and announced Rs 10 million for soling of the area as well as Rs 5 million for the provision of gas facility.
He also announced Rs 60 million for sewerage in Furniture Market, Nagra Town and adjacent areas. He also announced Rs 78 million for installation of tube wells, provision of water, sewerage and disposal stations in Dubanpura, Shah Farid Park and Jugian Nagra areas.
President PML Lahore Mian Muhammad Munir, President PP-150 Muhammad Irshad Dogar and President PP-149 Habibullah Bhatti also spoke on the occasion and highlighted the problems of the area. Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Kamil Ali Agha performed as stage secretary. Earlier, Punjab Chief Minister inaugurated Education Complex under the administrative control of Anjuman Hamayat-e-Islam.
