District Women Development department has demanded more grants to open new development centres to impart non-formal education, awareness and training in multiple disciplines to the girls.
District Officer (DO) Women Development, Naz Tahir told newsmen that at present the department is running 140 centres under Female Youth Group Programme with basic aim of giving education, creation and income generation opportunity to girls of low-income families.
She said she had received applications from citizens to open 500 more centers in different areas but the department could not do this due to non-availability of funds.
Terming the programme successful, she said more girls could benefit from this programme if funds were available for opening new centers. Different courses like adult literacy, basic education, poultry, handicrafts, basic of sanitation, poultry, embroidery, pin work and machine embroidery are part of this programme, she said.
