Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz said here on Monday that Pakistan would continue its political, diplomatic and moral support to the Kashmiri people till the resolution of Kashmir dispute, in accordance with their aspirations and wishes.
Addressing AJK Legislative Assembly and Azad Jammu and Kashmir Council to mark the Solidarity Day with the Kashmiri brethren, he said that Pakistan "is firmly committed" to its principled stance for a durable and peaceful resolution of Kashmir issue.
He said that Pakistan's support "is not only for brotherly relations with the Kashmiri people, but is in accordance with the UN Security Council resolution".
The Prime Minister said that Pakistan had initiated the process of 'confidence-building measures' (CBMs) and meaningful dialogue with India for an amicably and durable resolution of the issue, which has been a great success for Pakistan. He said Pakistan would never abandon the cause of Kashmir and has been pursuing it for an immediate solution of the dispute in accordance with the wishes of the Kashmiri people. He said that Kashmisiris are the focal point of the dispute, which would be included in the dialogue process. The Prime Minister said that Pakistan has made sincere efforts, showed flexibility and gave proposals to accelerate the peace process.
He asked India to reciprocate to Pakistan's initiatives for a peaceful resolution of the Kashmir dispute. He said the flexibility shown by Pakistan should not be misconstrued as weakness, "as we are making sincere efforts" for the resolution of this long standing issue and these efforts would also continue for peaceful settlement of Kashmir issue in future.
He said Pakistan wants development of the region and prosperity of the people of the two countries including Kashmiris. Referring to the recent visit of APHC leaders to Pakistan, the Prime Minister said that such process should continue in the future. He reiterated that Kashmiri people and the leaders would be included in the peace process so that they could decide their own future.
Shaukat said Pakistan would not compromise on the issue, and added that "Kashmir is our vital national interest". He appealed to the Kashmiri leadership to forge unity in its ranks so that the people of Kashmir should get their inalienable right. He also announced Rs 5 million each for 41 AJK constituencies as development package.
