The Turkish state grain board (TMO) purchased 80,000 tonnes of milling wheat in an import tender at a maximum price of $227.04 per tonne, the TMO said in a statement on Friday. The TMO invited bids last month for importing up to 200,000 tonnes of milling wheat and 300,000 tonnes of corn at zero duty.
Agrico Trade sold 50,000 tonnes, while Nidera 10,000 tonnes and Grains&Fourrages sold 20,000 tonnes of grain, which originate from Russia, Kazakhstan and Ukraine. The prices were between $204.49 per tonne FOB and $227.04 C+F. The shipping from Russian and Ukrainian Black Sea ports to Turkish ports will start on March 19 and will continue for one month.
Turkish farmers were worried that a fall in rainfall would hit their crop, especially in the country's bread basket central Anatolia. The government has said it has sufficient reserves.
