The advent of computers raised concerns of environmentalists who first thought that the machines were full of chemicals. Sensing their concerns and its possible negative affects upon users, many computer companies have now started to sell "Green Machines," which are 'Eco-friendly'.
Kristina Taylor of the Consumer Electronics Association, US said, "I think the green movement is becoming something that's mainstream." This revolution in computer world has enabled the user to choose a computer that is better for the environment.
Almost every major manufacturer now offers a variety of "earth-friendly" laptops, PC's, and monitors. Hewlett Packard, Sony, Toshiba, Panasonic, Dell are the few big names in this race.
Computers contain toxic plastics and chemicals like mercury, copper, cadmium, and lead. Experts are of the view that their effects become most active when they reach at the end of their lives.
The companies having introduced these green computers claim that this generation is more energy efficient. They contain lower levels of hazardous chemicals and are hoped to replace the existing generation of computers.
