Victims of Margalla Tower said on Monday that they would not accept any compensating package, which is less than Rs three billion. The victims spokesman Iftikhar Chaudhry told Business Recorder here that the file pertaining to the compensation for the owners of the flats has already been sent to Prime Minister for consideration.
He said that the compensation committee comprising four federal secretaries including secretary interior, finance, law and justice and chairman CBR has reportedly recommended Rs 1.75 billion in compensation, which they had already turned down pleading that they would not accept any package less than Rs three billion. They contended that Rs 1.75 billion is the worth of their plot. The case, filed by the victims pending in Supreme Court, is scheduled to be heard on Tuesday (March 6) in which they have demanded of the CDA to compensate for the financial and human losses occurred due to deliberate negligence of the CDA officials.
They have also filed another criminal case in lower court against the builder of the tower and his wife and other people who were directly involved in the construction of the building allegedly using substandard materials. The victims also demanded of the government to take stern action against all the successive CDA chairmen since 1994 to 2005, who they blamed have not taken measures to secure the lives of the flats owners despite knowing it that they used substandard material.
