Sindh Governor, Dr Ishratul Ibad Khan has said that new projects of alternate energy will soon start functioning in Sindh to help overcome energy crisis.
He said 64 wind turbines would be installed at Thatta, Jhimpir and other places in the interior of Sindh by Sindh government's department of alternate energy in co-ordination with alternate energy development board through which 15,000 MW energy will be produced.
He was speaking at a dinner hosted by him at Governor House on Friday in honour of local and foreign participants of ICAEP-2007 exhibition. The governor pointed out that requirement for energy is increasing day by day and work is being done on other projects also to meet energy shortage.
He said work is also being done on producing energy from gas. Wapda supplying electricity to meet country's power needs while KESC has been privatised to improve power supply system and its positive effects are now appearing.
The governor congratulated Provincial Minister for Environment and Alternate Energy, Dr Saghir Ahmed and the exhibition organisers and said that wind energy today is regarded as fast speed energy world over.
He informed that US is carrying out research on modern wind energy projects while China is preparing to install 20,000 MW wind energy plants. Similarly neighbouring India, too, has made a good progress in this field and initiatives started in Pakistan as well and in Sindh alone 15,000 MW wind turbines being installed.
Dr Ishratul Ibad observed that wheels of economy could be moved fast by working on projects, which produce cheap energy. He pointed out that Pakistan has attracted world attention because of its economic stability and has become lucrative country for investment and investors are being extended attractive incentives.
The governor said that wind energy plant will prove more successful in coastal areas because of speedy wind blowing. Others who also spoke on the occasion included Minister for Environment, Dr Saghir Ahmed, Chairman Alternate Energy Development Board, Air Marshal Shahid Hamid, Secretary Alternate Energy Board, Brigadier Nasim A. Khan and others.
