Sindh Chief Minister, Dr Arbab Ghulam Rahim has said that some persons appeared to be associated with the lawyers' fraternity "attacked" the Sindh Assembly Building on Wednesday. Addressing a press conference here at Chief Minister House on Wednesday, he said.
"Those who are considered to be the guardians of law, after creating disturbance at Supreme Court yesterday, have now attacked the elected house which has no connection whatsoever with the ongoing issue."
The Chief Minister said taking law into one's hand is unacceptable and no one will be allowed to do so and warned of strict legal action against the miscreants.
"The current issue is a constitutional one and is being appropriately dealt with by the highest authorities as a result of the reference moved by the President, Pervez Musharraf (to the Supreme Judicial Council)," he said. Arbab said some political parties along with their lawyers are trying to exploit the situation to their political advantage by politicising the issue.
"Those politicians who themselves blemished the sanctity of Supreme Court in the past by assailing it, are now coming up with all sorts of sympathies," he pointed out.
He said because all the moves of the opposition parties including the All Parties Conference, fell flat on them, they picked this issue to use it to their advantage. "There are only few elements who are responsible for such acts and they do not represent the majority of the population of the country," he said.
Arbab said we did not react to the peaceful protest demonstrations staged by the lawyers in Sindh recently but "attacks on Sindh Assembly and other such institutions in the province will not be tolerated".
To a question regarding his visit to Islamabad, he said: "A reference has been moved by the Government and we will certainly present the evidence, which the Sindh Government possesses for the ongoing proceedings in Islamabad." "We are with the President and whatever evidence we possess we will present it for consideration," Dr Arbab said.
To another question, he said: "We have provided the evidences and, if required, will do so again." He said an FIR No 137/07 has been lodged under Sections 147, 148, 452, 187 and 125A with Preedy Police Station against the unknown persons who attacked the policemen at the Sindh Assembly building on Wednesday.
