The one-month South Asian Association for Regional Co-operation (Saarc) Car Rally would enter Pakistan from Wagah border on March 28 for four days. The regional car rally, which started on March 15 from Bangladesh is aimed at forging unity among the Saarc member countries, will culminate in Maldives on April 14.
Addressing a press conference here on Thursday, Federal Minister for Tourism Nelofar Bakhtiar said the basic purpose of the rally was not merely holding a race but to promote unity, fraternity and harmony among the regional nations.
She said it is the responsibility of the each country in the South Asian region to make the rally a success for the promotion of peace and friendship. After entering Pakistan, the Punjab Chief Minister and Federal Minister for Tourism will receive the participants of the rally at Wagah border on March 28.
The rally would leave for Islamabad, where it will stay at Taxila. The next day, rally will leave for Lahore and after staying there for a night, it would leave for India via Wagah border. The rally will comprise people from all walks of life mainly sport stars, writers and journalists. The rally participants from Pakistan include Waris Baig his wife, Sarfraz Nawaz his wife and Nazia Khan.
